November 14, 2000Envirogen Wins Research & Development Award
Today the Research & Development Council of New Jersey presented its Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards honoring the most critical Research & Development advancements of 2000. Envirogen received its award for its patent covering "Biodegradation of Gasoline Oxygenates". MTBE is the most commonly used gasoline oxygenate and a widespread groundwater contaminant. Envirogen's patent facilitates site remediation for MTBE contamination in a safe and cost effective manner.
Alan Main, Chairman of the Research & Development Council of New Jersey, said, "The 2000 Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award winners made bold strides in diverse and significant fields, illustrating the outstanding R & D capabilities within New Jersey's corporate and academic institutions." The other award winners for 2000 are Princeton University, Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation and Rutgers University.
Envirogen is currently working with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency as part of EPA's MTBE Treatment Technology Demonstration Program. Envirogen and EPA recently agreed upon a program to demonstrate Envirogen's proprietary in situ biotreatment technology for subsurface cleanup of MTBE contaminated groundwater. The field demonstration will take place at the Port Hueneme Naval Station in California with funding provided by the Department of Defense and the EPA.
Envirogen is a broad-based environmental systems and services company providing its customers with the maximum benefit per dollar spent for environmental protection. Through the application of its industry leading technologies, Envirogen provides cost-effective means to remove pollution from the air, water and soil.
Statements made in this press release related to the future market expectations for Envirogen's remediation technologies are forward-looking and are made pursuant to the safe harbor provisions of the Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Such statements involve risks and uncertainties that may cause results to differ materially from those set forth in these statements. Additional economic, competitive, governmental, technological, marketing and other factors identified in Envirogen's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission could affect such results.
