December 1, 2000Golf Cart Arrives at Astris Energi for Integration of Fuel Cell System Astris Energi's fuel-cell driven golf cart project took a big step toward completion yesterday with the arrival of the initial cart from a leading U.S. manufacturer into which the fuel cell power system will be installed.
Completion of the fully operational vehicle is slated for March of next year, according to Jiri K. Nor, president of Astris Energi Inc.
The first two test stacks for the alkaline fuel cell (AFC) golf cart engine were received recently from the company's European manufacturing facility in Benesov, Czech Republic. Integration of the complete power system is moving ahead satisfactorily, Nor said. The same AFC power source is adaptable to powering airport ramp, in-plant delivery, retirement community and other similar vehicles, according to Nor.
In addition, agencies of the Czech government are currently conducting tests on both a one-kilowatt portable fuel cell power source and a four-kilowatt system which could supply electricity, heat and hot water to both individual residences and motor homes.
