February 13, 2001DuPont forms fuel cell business DuPont Co., the No. 1 U.S. chemical company, said on Thursday it had formed a fuel cell business, aiming to get a foothold in what it believes will be a $10 billion market in a decade.
DuPont said it will focus on the proton exchange membrane fuel cell market, applying technology from its polymer, coatings and electrochemicals technology businesses.
DuPont opened a multimillion-dollar fuel cell technology center in 2000 near its headquarters in Wilmington, Del., that is focusing on materials technology and applications development. The company is also forming industry partnerships in the business.
