April 23, 2001Sterling Planet Launches the First 100% Green Energy Option Sterling Planet, Inc. announced today its unprecedented offering that now empowers millions of consumers and businesses in the 48 mainland states and D.C. -- even in electric markets that are still regulated -- to choose 100% certified green energy and help develop the U.S. renewable energy market.
Green energy comes from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, small hydro, geothermal and biomass. These sources have little or no environmental impact.
"Our mission is to increase green energy production, promote energy conservation and reduce air pollution," said Therrell "Sonny" Murphy, Sterling Planet's CEO and founder. "Our convenient offer allows consumers and businesses to choose certified green energy while they stay with their electric utility, keeping the exact same relationship."
Sterling Planet offers a green energy upgrade through direct sales and utility partnerships. Here's how the unique five-minute buying process works at www.SterlingPlanet.com: Customers decide how much of a green upgrade they want. Sterling Planet satisfies customer orders via "green tickets" that verify the sources of green energy production. Green ticket sales boost demand for green energy, make existing green energy plants more financially viable and create financial incentives for new production.
Buyers agree to pay Sterling Planet a flat monthly premium, plus pay their regular electric bill to their utility. The extra monthly cost, typically about $10 - $15, is easily offset by conservation.
