July 15, 2000ETHANOL INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO SET MONTHLY PRODUCTION RECORDS The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) today announced that according to revised data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration(EIA), the ethanol industry set an all-time monthly record for production during April, averaging over 110,000 barrels per day (b/d) for the month.
This tops the previous all-time record set in February of 108,000 b/d. The ethanol industry has set a record for production each month this year.
"The ethanol industry is committed to extending the tight gasoline supply to reduce consumer pain at the pump," said Eric Vaughn, President of the
RFA. "We have set new production records for each month this year and the ethanol industry looks to continue the streak for a new annual production record. At a time when oil companies face chronic supply shortages, the ethanol industry is building new facilities and setting production records."
The record high price of gasoline and lack of refining capacity is focusing attention on renewable ethanol as a cost-effective way to extend tight gasoline supplies and avoid the price spikes that are becoming common
throughout the country.
