October 10, 2001RFA ELECTS OFFICERS AT ANNUAL MEETING Gary Smith of High Plains Elected New Board Chairman
The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) today announced the election of Board of Director officers for the 2002 fiscal year beginning this October at the RFA annual meeting held in Chicago, Illinois. All officers were elected unanimously to a one-year term. The FY 2002 officers are:
Chairman, Gary Smith, High Plains Corporation
Vice Chairman, Ron Miller, Williams Bio-Energy
Treasurer, Dan Thompson, Minnesota Corn Processors
Secretary, Jeff Broin, Broin Companies
President, Bob Dinneen, RFA
“Gary Smith will be a dynamic leader for the ethanol industry as we continue our record breaking growth,” said Bob Dinneen, president of the RFA. “Gary has been implementing an aggressive growth strategy at High Plains Corporation and that’s the same outlook we’re charting for the ethanol industry as a whole. There’s been no more important time in our history for the increased production and use of domestic, renewable ethanol. Our industry and the farmers of this country are ready, willing and able to serve on the front lines of America’s war for energy security.”
The ethanol industry is on track to produce a record 1.8 billion gallons in 2001. There are more than a dozen ethanol plants under construction that will join the 57 plants in production. Much of the ethanol industry’s growth in the last five years is the result of new farmer-owned cooperatives. Two members of the RFA board, Thompson and Broin, represent farmer-owned plants.
“The RFA has done an outstanding job serving as ‘the voice of the ethanol industry’ in Washington and throughout the country,” said Gary Smith, chairman of the RFA. “As our industry works to play a bigger role in the U.S. energy policy, possibly by implementing a renewable fuels standard, we need the strong voice RFA provides. I look forward to serving as chairman of the RFA during this time of growth and opportunity.”
