October 16, 2001High Plains Contributes to Industry Expansion with York Startup; Gary Smith Elected Chairman of Renewable Fuels Association High Plains Corporation has announced that the expansion of its York, Nebraska plant has been tested, and that the plant has run several days at its new design capacity of 50 million annual gallons. While the plant is still in a startup phase with some final adjustments still in progress, these daily production rates indicate that the expected capacity increase from 36 to 50 million gallons per year at this facility has been successfully attained. Continuous full capacity production is still expected before the end of this month.
Gary R. Smith, President and CEO of High Plains, praised plant personnel for their efforts in dealing with a difficult startup after such a major expansion. "Our people worked around the clock to keep this project on track to achieve full production by November. We did experience difficulties in the initial startup phase as we previously announced, but we have now seen the daily production numbers we projected, and believe that our goal of consistent production at these levels will be achieved by the November deadline we originally set," he stated.
