October 31, 2001Ethanol Industry Marks Two Years of Record Production The Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) announced that the U.S. ethanol industry set a production record for the month of September. According to data released today, the ethanol industry produced over 115,000 barrels per day (b/d) in September of this year. This new record exceeds the previous September record of 101,000 b/d set in 2000, an increase of 14 percent. September’s record was the 23rd monthly production record in the last 24 months.
“The ethanol industry has made a commitment to this country,” said Bob Dinneen, president of the RFA. “It’s time for this country’s energy policy to make a commitment to ethanol. For two years the ethanol industry has been building production facilities and producing at record rates to meet America’s demand for a domestic, clean-burning, octane additive. We’ve got a proven track record we can take into the future. Now is the time for Congress to include a meaningful renewable fuel standard in the energy legislation.”
The ethanol industry is on pace to produce an annual record of roughly 1.8 billion gallons in 2001. The ethanol industry will also set a new capacity expansion record this year. There are thirteen ethanol plants under construction and 57 plants in operation.
“Promoting ethanol through a renewable fuel standard puts farmers and the ethanol industry on the front line in the battle for energy independence,” said Dinneen. “We are ready to serve. In order to achieve homeland security, our country first needs energy independence. Increasing our production and use of ethanol is a good first step in reversing the growing trend of dependence on imported oil.”
