April 11, 2002Gunnedah puts case for ethanol plant Australian Broadcasting Corporation - Gunnedah Shire Council, in northern New South Wales, has hosted a meeting with two senior Federal Government ministers to press its case for a multi-million dollar ethanol plant.
An Australian company has announced plans to build a $55 million ethanol plant in the region, using crops grown in the north and north-west of NSW.
Local federal MP John Anderson and Agriculture Minister Warren Truss met council representatives in Gunnedah to discuss federal funding for the project.
Ethanol is seen as a viable alternative to fossil fuels.
Mayor Gai Swain says Gunnedah wants to do all it can to win the construction project.
