August 22, 2002Groundbreaking set for Platte ethanol plant early this fall PLATTE - Groundbreaking for an ethanol plant at Platte is set for early this fall, according to organizers.
Progressive Energies LLC, which has a booth at Dakotafest, has been in the process of selling ownership units to all South Dakota residents for the ethanol project.
The plant's board of directors recently voted to drop corn delivery requirements and fees associated with ownership in the limited liability company. Initially, each ownership unit carried a grain delivery requirement.
Dave Meyerink, board chairman, said the major shift away from corn and milo delivery requirements was based on public response.
"People contemplating investing in the plant were frustrated by the corn and milo delivery requirement," Meyerink said. "We can still add value to regional corn and milo while taking the burden off the producer or non-producer."
