January 7, 2003Kansas ethanol producers, others set to discuss state of industry The future direction of Kansas' ethanol industry will be at the center of a statewide discussion set for later this month, says Greg Krissek, director of operations for the Kansas Corn Commission.
"We'll be addressing several questions," Krissek says. "Is Kansas positioned to become a bigger player in the ethanol industry and what technical and policy issues need to be addressed if we want to grow the ethanol industry in Kansas?"
Krissek says ethanol production and interest in ethanol are reaching "all-time highs in Kansas."
As part of that rising ethanol wave, Krissek says the commission has decided to hold a seminar on the subject called "The Kansas Ethanol Workshop: Fueling Opportunities in Kansas; Focusing on Utilization and Production."
The seminar is scheduled to be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka.
Among the subjects are the U.S. Department of Energy's Biomass Initiative, a national overview of the ethanol industry, a panel on the status of ethanol in Kansas and Mike Adams of Doane Broadcasting, who will talk about the growth of ethanol.
"The conference is designed to inform anyone who is interested in ethanol production and use,' Krissek says.
A variety of business and governmental agencies are involved in the event.
They include:
Kansas Corn Commission.
Kansas Grain Sorghum Commission.
Kansas Dept. of Commerce and Housing Agriculture Marketing Division.
ICM Inc.
Fagen Inc.
Burns & McDonnell.
Ethanol Products Inc.
BBI International.
