October 3, 2000PA DEP: Deadline to Apply for Alternative Fuel Grants Extended
Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Secretary James M. Seif today extended the deadline to apply for funding under the Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant Program to Nov. 1.
"More than $7 million is available for school districts, local governments, corporations, partnerships, nonprofit entities and Commonwealth residents for projects that promote the use of cleaner-burning alternative fuels," Seif said. "We hope that, by extending the deadline, more people will be encouraged to apply."
Grants can be used to convert an existing gasoline vehicle to operate on an alternative fuel; pay for the difference between an alternative fuel vehicle and a conventional gasoline or diesel vehicle; purchase and install a refueling or recharging facility; or evaluate new alternative fuel technologies. Grants even can be used toward the purchase of new energy- efficient hybrid electric vehicles available from Honda and Toyota.
Grants awarded this year will cover up to 30 percent of the applicant's eligible costs.
