September 3, 2003Granite Falls ethanol equity drive continues Tuesday, September 2, 2003
By Carol Stender
Agri News staff writer
GRANITE FALLS, Minn. -- The Granite Falls Community Ethanol project organizers has extended its equity drive.
Financiers would like organizers to raise between $20 million to $22 million, said Robin Spaude, project coordinator.
The project's initial equity drive ended June 30 but organizers can extend the drive twice with each extension lasting 90 days. The current extension ends Sept. 30.
Granite Falls Community Ethanol would be a 40 million-gallon dry mill plant. The initial minimum investment is $5,000.
Most initial investors live within a 25-mile radius of Granite Falls, Spaude said. But investors hail from throughout Minnesota including some near the Canadian border.
Project planners continue to conduct group meetings to explain the investment and plant operations, he said.
"Rather than having a published, firm schedule, we are meeting with groups that have approached us and who have expressed interest," Spaude said. "If there's someone out there who wants us to come to their area, we will go and talk to them." Meetings have been scheduled for the next two weeks.
Plant organizers are working with the Farmers Cooperative Elevator based in Hanley Falls for a corn procurement agreement.
Construction could start in October, Spaude said.
