September 22, 2003New ethanol refinery planned Perth-based Indcor will build Australia's first multi-grain, purpose-built, methanol refinery in Victoria next year.
Indcor is buying Australian Biofuels from Multiplex Constructions to refine ethanol for blending with petrol for transport use.
It plans to build a multi-grain refinery at Swan Hill to produce ethanol instead of reusing the waste from another process.
Indcor chairman Peter Anderton said the Swan Hill refinery would process corn, wheat and barley and be capable of producing 45 mega-litres of ethanol per year as part of the first stage of development.
The by-product distillers grain would be sold locally to cattle, dairy and piggery operations.
The facility would also incorporate the development of hardwood plantations to allow efficient use of waste water from the refinery to generate future timber revenues.
It would also allow the company to use the annual carbon credits in the total ethanol fuel marketing package.
Mr Anderton said federal government was finally set to make a decision on its renewable fuels policy.
"We anticipate an announcement of the federal package in the next few days," Mr Anderton said.
He said federal government delays and political posturing had caused extensive damage to the ethanol industry.
Indcor would conduct at $3.7 million capital raising to fund the acquisition.
